Not with Telstra but want to set up Telstra internet at your new address? It’s easy!
Enjoy exciting benefits and earn points towards rewards every time you make an eligible payment on your services.
In many cases, it takes just a few minutes to switch the connection to Telstra at your new home. Once your order is processed and your new modem has arrived (if applicable), you’ll be able to plug it in and get connected.
If a technician needs to help connect your new home to the fixed access network, you can get online in the meantime with 4G mobile backup on the Telstra Smart Modem.
4G coverage required. Backup speeds capped at 25/5 Mbps. Actual speeds may be lower.
We deliver modems in up to 3 days for metro areas and up to 7 days for regional areas.
Yes, you can select the date you’d like the internet to be connected. The earlier you book the date with us the better. If you choose the self-installation option you’ll need to give us at least 2 business days’ notice.
If you require a technician, or choose the professional installation option, you’ll need to give us at least 7 business days’ notice.
The more notice you give, the more likely we can complete your move on your preferred day – especially if a Telstra or third-party fixed access network technician visit is required.
Let us know when placing your order and we will ensure the appropriate steps are taken.
Depending on the network technology available at your address, we may need to arrange an appointment with the appropriate third-party fixed access network technician.
We’ll let you know what’s needed once you’ve placed your order. Extra charges may apply for non-standard or professional install of Telstra, nbn co or Opticomm equipment. If you’re in a new development and not already connected to the nbn or Opticomm access network, you may be charged a new development fee to connect your premises to the network. If applicable, we will invoice that charge to you.
nbn co charges $300 for first-time connections in new developments and $297 for an additional connection requiring installation of additional nbn equipment & Opticomm charges $300 for first-time connections in new developments. Opticomm also charges a new connection fee of between $330 and $550 when there is no existing connection. The amount will depend on the type of connection you require.
If you're a new customer, you won't be charged for your internet service until it is active. By then we will have cancelled your old service and notified your old provider.
If you're an existing customer, we'll transfer your service from your old address to your new address so there's no double-up. Your plan and contract will remain the same unless you change plans as part of your move.
It’s unlikely, but if this is the case, you’ll need to provide documentation to prove that you’re moving into the new address.
Yes, if you have an active phone line at your current address then we’ll transfer your phone service along with the internet service to your new address.
In most cases you’ll be able to keep the same phone number. Standard conditions apply about moving from one exchange to another. If you can’t keep your number, we’ll provide you with a new one.
Once you’ve booked your move, we’ll let you know within 48 hours if a technician is required.
For example if your house is a new development or is being connected to the nbn for the first time, or you’re a Priority Assistance customer, you may need a technician to visit.
Priority Assistance is available to people who need a home phone connection due to a diagnosed life-threatening medical condition.
Must be 18+ with an active service. Points are earned on payment for services or pre-paid recharge (excluding outright purchases, refunds, credits & late payment fees). Points expire 3 years from earning. Marketing opt-in required (preferences can be changed). Excludes Telstra Enterprise and Corporate accounts.
Services not available to all areas or premises.
Standard installation includes self-installation of your modem, eligibility criteria apply. Extra charges apply for non-standard installation of Telstra and nbn co equipment and for premises in new developments.
In areas serviced by nbn co, Telstra may be required to connect services onto the nbn network. If you’re in a new development and not already connected to the nbn network, nbn co may charge $300 to connect your premises to the nbn network. If applicable, we will bill that charge to you. Once you are connected to nbn fibre, you won’t be able to move to our copper network. Extra charges may apply for non-standard or professional install of Telstra or nbn co equipment and for premises in new developments.
Mobile backup is available to premises in 4G coverage areas. Check coverage at telstra.com/coverage. Your mobile backup connection is capped at 25 Mbps for downloads and 5 Mbps for uploads. Actual speeds may be lower due to local conditions and content accessed.
If you have alarms such as back-to-base security alarm or medi-alert connected to your home phone service, it’s important you contact your medical or security provider to check if they’re compatible with the service and identify what alternatives are available.

The nbn network has different wholesale speed tiers for different levels of online activity and households. Our nbn plans are based on those speed tiers.
Use this quick guide to help you work out which nbn speed tier best suits your home and lifestyle.
Typical speeds (7pm - 11pm)
Good for smaller households with low data demands
Typical speeds (7pm - 11pm)
Great for medium households with moderate data demands
Speeds experienced may be lower due to factors including in-home setup and wiring. An nbn service can never go faster than the maximum line speed at your premises, so for FTTN/B/C customers, we will confirm your maximum attainable speeds after connection. Standard Plus Evening speeds are not available to most FTTN customers.
Typical speeds (7pm - 11pm)
Best for larger households with high data demands
Speeds experienced may be lower due to factors like your in-home set-up and wiring and will be confirmed post-connection for FTTN/B/C. Plan available to HFC, FTTP and some FTTN/B/C customers. 100Mbps typical download speeds not available to most FTTN customers.

Mbps, or megabits per second is how fast data travels along a network.
The typical evening speed on any plan is measured in Mbps; eg "50Mbps typical evening speed". A higher Mbps means a faster connection; lower Mbps means a slower one.
Mbps is also a measure of the capacity of your internet. Each thing you do online - watching a video, playing a game, posting updates - reduces your capacity.
Faster Mbps speed means more capacity, which allows more people and devices to use your connection at once.
All our plans include unlimited data, so you don’t have to worry about how much data you use.
The maximum speeds available at your address are dependent on the technology used to connect your premises to the nbn network.
They will be the same no matter who you buy an internet plan from.
We don’t offer you this plan so that you don’t pay for speeds your nbn connection can’t achieve.
Once you’re connected, if we determine that your technology can support this plan’s speeds, we’ll let you know.
The speeds you experience may be lower than the estimated maximum speed ranges for your address, particularly during busy periods, and can be impacted by things like your own setup and wiring. We’ll use the latest information when you’re on your new plan to confirm the maximum speeds at your address.
When choosing a plan, you’ll see how the maximum speeds at your address relate to your plan options. This is important because you will not be able to experience the typical or maximum speeds of a plan if the speed available at your address are lower.
The maximum available speeds at your address shown are for your existing line only. If you need an additional line/service, we’ll let you know the maximum speeds of the additional line once it’s connected.
Most customers only need one service at their address. Having an additional nbn service at your address means you’ll have to pay for an additional nbn plan and install a new modem.
If there are no additional available nbn lines at your address, we may need to install a new one, which may increase the time to complete your order, and there may be set-up costs.
Each nbn line at your address could have different maximum speeds. We’ll ask at checkout about additional nbn services.

If the nbn network is not yet available at your address, you may have other options to get connected.
Cable broadband uses coaxial cable to deliver internet and pay TV services to your home. Cable broadband is generally faster than ADSL.
ADSL uses your copper phone line to deliver internet alongside your phone service. ADSL speeds vary depending on your distance from the exchange.
We test your actual speeds once you're connected.
A mobile broadband device is a great option for homes where other connections aren't available. Because they're portable they offer internet at home and on the go, with 4G and 5G speeds comparable to cable broadband.

Your 5G Home Internet plan comes with 1000GB of data.
We estimate you could do all of these and still use less than 1000GB a month:
If you go over 1000 GB you still get data access, but your download speed will be slowed to 25 Mbps.
Speeds experienced may be slower over Wi-Fi and can also be impacted by other factors such as the distance and line of sight between the serving 5G mobile tower and the modem, the number of users online, where your modem is located and how far you are from it, weather, congestions and your in-home set up.
