International Roaming

Using your Telstra service overseas means you can stay in touch via your existing number. However, it can be very expensive. If you’re using a mobile or mobile broadband device, you need to be aware of potential data costs.
From 30 April 2013 we will automatically send you data usage alerts via SMS every time you roam overseas. This is to help keep you informed of how much data you are using whilst travelling.
These will be sent each time you use 20MB of data used overseas except when you are roaming and using data in Hong Kong.
Please be aware that if you are already overseas and using data, the data usage alerts you will receive from 30 April will not show any data used overseas before this date. If you are roaming in Hong Kong, any data usage alerts you receive in other countries on the same trip, will not include any of the data you have used in Hong Kong.
It’s important to note that we rely on the overseas network carriers in the countries you are travelling in to forward to you the SMS data usage alerts and this may cause a delay in receiving the alerts. This means that you could receive alerts once you have already used more than the 20MB increment. Activate
If you have a Post-Paid service and haven't used International Roaming before, then you'll need to apply to have it activated. Within three days, you'll receive a confirmation to let you know if International Roaming is ready to be used.
Telstra Pre-Paid customers already have International Roaming activated. Consider buying an International Roaming Browse Plus Pack

If you've used International Roaming before on your mobile or mobile broadband service, it may already be active.
