Over the past year, Telstra has made significant investments in both capital expenditures and strategic partnerships, laying the groundwork for operational efficiencies and improved customer experience. Responding to increased customer demand, Telstra’s Broadcast Services (TBS) has also experienced remarkable growth, driven by its impressive fibre network, expanding internet delivery capabilities, global satellite coverage, and managed media service capabilities. With Telstra’s Global Media Network (GMN) at the core of its offerings, this global connectivity has enabled TBS to deliver thousands of hours of live sports, news and entertainment to billions of fans and viewers around the world.

A Year of Unprecedented Growth

In November 2023, Telstra Broadcast Services (TBS) and BT announced a five-year strategic alliance that would leverage the vast network infrastructure and localized expertise of both companies to provide customers with unparalleled access to high-quality media delivery services. Since then, the unified operations of the two Global Media Networks have expanded the network bandwidth by nearly 20 Gbit/s. This enhancement has been instrumental in delivering high-quality media content for various live events and media organisations by supporting global video contribution and distribution and accommodating traditional broadcast, IP video standards, and cloud connectivity.

The strategic alliance with BT has further enhanced TBS's capabilities, allowing it to reach new markets and provide expanded distribution of content.  To date, the collaboration has significantly expanded TBS's global footprint and increased its customer base to 40+ new sites and customer connection worldwide, providing more than 460 new services. The expanded GMN has also provided media rights-holders, broadcasters, and channel creditors with increased access to a broader suite of TBS offerings, such as remote production, OTT services and Virtual Advertising, opens in a new window.

Delivering content to billions

From national broadcasters and channels to major sports leagues and international tournaments, TBS has consistently provided reliable and innovative solutions for video delivery. With nodes in every major media hotspot, Telstra’s GMN remains the backbone of its success, fuelled by the network's robust infrastructure, high bandwidth, and low latency. Customers have also praised the network's flexibility in accommodating different media formats and distribution needs. However, the end-to-end media management capabilities provided by TBS remain the network’s biggest advantage, offering 24/7 enhanced monitoring, real-time reporting services, and broadcast operations support.

Poised now for continued growth, Telstra’s commitment to innovation and investment in both its existing infrastructure and the latest cutting-edge technologies, ensures that TBS will continue to deliver for its broadcast, media and sports customers.
