Coverage Statement
Coverage Statement
The Apple iPhone 4 is approved by Telstra for use on the Telstra Next G™ network and is suitable for handheld use in metro and major regional coverage areas. These are the areas marked as "Voice, picture, TV, video and broadband" on the Telstra Next G™ coverage maps. To help maximise coverage performance in these areas, Telstra recommends that customers team their iPhone 4 with an approved rubberised bumper or case. View the list of approved cases (PDF, 414KB).
Testing by Telstra has shown that use of some rubberised bumpers or cases with the iPhone 4 can improve its hand held performance to the equivalent of a Telstra "Blue Tick" rated device. A Telstra device certified with the "Blue Tick" is recommended for rural and regional customers who need to maximise their coverage.
Customers who purchase an iPhone 4 in Australia prior to 30 September can obtain a free rubberised bumper directly from Apple. Separately, customers can purchase an approved case from selected Telstra Shops or Telstra Dealers if they would like an accessory immediately.
FAQ
Bumpers and cases
Are Telstra customers eligible for a free bumper/case?
Yes. Apple is running a redemption program for a free case and customers who purchase their iPhone 4 from Telstra or Telstra Dealers before 30 September will be eligible.
How do Telstra customers redeem free bumper/case?
Customers who purchase an iPhone 4 in Australia prior to 30 September, can obtain a free case directly from Apple.
Separately, customers can purchase a bumper or case from a Telstra Shop or Telstra Dealer if they would like the accessory immediately.
Coverage performance
Does Telstra recommend customers use a bumper when operating iPhone 4?
Apple iPhone 4 is approved for use on the Telstra Next G™ network which means it’s suitable for handheld use in metro and major regional coverage areas without the use of accessories like a rubber bumper.
However, to improve coverage performance in these areas further, Telstra suggests customers team their iPhone 4 with an approved rubberised bumper or case.
An approved bumper or case can also improve the consistency of data speeds when customers are using a fast network like Telstra Next G™ network.
Can customers use iPhone 4 in Telstra’s regional and rural coverage areas?
Yes. Extensive testing by Telstra has shown that if a customer teams their iPhone 4 with an approved rubberised bumper or case, handheld coverage performance is equivalent to a Telstra ‘Blue Tick’ rated device.
A Telstra ‘Blue Tick’ certified mobile provides optimal hand held performance and is recommended for rural and regional customers who need to maximise their coverage.
Why haven’t you called it a Blue Tick phone in its own right?
We reserve Blue Tick certification for phones that provide maximum coverage performance in their own right without the use of accessories.
What if I am unhappy with the coverage performance on my iPhone 4 from Telstra, can I get a refund?
We’re confident customers will enjoy good coverage performance with the iPhone 4 – especially if they team their phone with an approved rubber bumper or case in regional and rural areas with Next G coverage.
If a customer is dissatisfied we would encourage them to contact Telstra and of course they retain the rights they have as per any mobile device purchase.
